Choosing a snow blower by clearing width alone can leave a crew with a machine that clears the path but cannot reach it, turn or fit into storage. Match the working width to the snow route and check the complete machine and attachment envelope before ordering.

The MERI ME-RS tracked snow blower is offered with 600, 800 and 1,000 mm clearing-width options. The right fit depends on the narrowest access point, turning room, storage and where cleared snow can go—not just the width of the surface you plan to clear.
Clearing width and machine width are different
Clearing width describes the path the snow blower is designed to clear in a pass. It does not, by itself, tell you the full dimensions of the tracked carrier, attachment, guards or other projections. A 1,000 mm clearing width is not proof that the whole machine is 1,000 mm wide.
The current MERI ME-RS listing provides dimensions of 1,800 × 1,400 × 850 mm but does not identify which measurement is length, width or height. Before deciding whether a machine will fit through a gate or between fixed obstacles, ask MERI for a dimensioned drawing for the exact offered configuration. Do not assume the order of an unlabeled dimension list.
Measure the whole route, not just the opening
Measure the narrowest clear opening along the full travel path. Include gate posts, hinges, wall corners, parked equipment, pipes, bollards, overhead restrictions and attachment projections. Measure at the level where the tracks and attachment will travel; a route that looks open from above can narrow around curbs or fixed fittings.
Then check the turn-in and turn-out areas. A machine may pass through a gate but still lack room to line up, turn or approach the work zone. Include ramps, thresholds, uneven transitions and slopes in the site review, and confirm the suitability of the exact configuration with MERI.
Finally, measure storage access and parking space. Consider how the machine will enter and leave the building, where it will be kept and whether the attachment changes the clearance required.
Choose a clearing width for the work area
On an open route, a wider clearing head can cover more ground per pass. A narrower option may be easier to fit through a constrained route, but can require more passes across a broad area. Those are planning trade-offs; confirm the actual site and machine dimensions before selecting a configuration.
The ME-RS options are 600, 800 and 1,000 mm. Measure the route and clearing area first, then compare those options with the snow volume, turning space and storage arrangement. Do not choose the widest option automatically: the suitable working width is the one that matches the route, clearing plan and verified machine envelope together.
Plan where the snow will go
A snow blower needs a discharge plan as well as an access plan. Identify where snow can be placed without blocking doors, paths, sightlines, loading areas or drains. Consider pedestrian routes, vehicles and places where snow may build up over several passes.
The MERI ME-RS product page lists a 3–5 m blowing distance. Treat this as the published specification, and confirm whether the offered configuration and site conditions meet your snow-placement needs. Do not assume one listed distance will suit every snow condition or working position.
Before requesting a quote
- The narrowest clear opening and full route to the work area.
- The turning and storage space available.
- Ramps, thresholds, slopes or fixed obstacles along the route.
- The surface and area to be cleared.
- Where snow can be discharged.
- Which ME-RS clearing-width option you are considering.
- Whether you need a dimensioned drawing for the offered configuration.
Ask the MERI team to confirm the overall dimensions and attachment envelope for the exact configuration before finalizing access or storage plans. This keeps clearing width from being mistaken for a full machine-fit measurement.
Frequently asked questions
Does clearing width equal the full machine width?
No. Clearing width describes the working width of the snow-clearing head. The carrier, attachment and other projections affect the full space needed to travel and turn. Confirm the complete envelope before ordering.
Which ME-RS clearing widths are available?
The current product listing shows 600, 800 and 1,000 mm options. Confirm the offered configuration in your quotation.
What dimensions should I use to check a gate?
Use the confirmed dimensions for the complete machine configuration, and measure the narrowest opening along the entire route. The published ME-RS dimensions are 1,800 × 1,400 × 850 mm, but the listing does not label the axes; request a dimensioned drawing before relying on any value as the width.
Is a wider snow blower always faster?
Not on every site. A wider head can reduce passes over an open area, but a constrained route, turn or storage space may make that configuration unsuitable. Match the width to the actual site.
Match the machine to the site
A sound winter plan starts with measurements: the route, turning space, storage and snow-discharge area. Compare those with the confirmed machine envelope and the ME-RS clearing-width options before selecting a configuration.
Review the ME-RS configuration and share your site measurements with MERI before choosing a clearing width.
